Wood-boring beetles are wood destroying insects that can cause immense harm to your personal possessions. A wood-boring beetle in your home or business threatens the quality and value of (historic) buildings, mills, wooden furniture, or objects.
Woodworm control can be performed using various techniques. A proper inspection is essential to determine the right treatment method. Treating woodworm is a delicate task for which you should rely on a professional partner who provides the right advice after inspection. EWS is your partner for controlling all types and stages of wood-boring beetles.
Woodworm Treatment
Woodworm control is crucial to prevent the further spread of wood-boring beetles in your home or business.
Fumigation
One possible method for woodworm treatment is fumigation, where toxic gas is used for preventive or curative treatment of wood-boring beetles. Professional and highly trained fumigation specialists at EWS Fumigation have extensive experience in woodworm removal.
EWS uses the gas sulfuryl fluoride as an alternative to liquid treatments for woodworm control. By fumigating wood, we can guarantee 99.98% success, as this treatment eliminates wood-boring beetles in all life stages.
Impregnation
Wood-damaging insects – such as woodworm and longhorn beetles – and wood fungi can be controlled by impregnating the affected wood. This method is applied to clean, accessible, and unpainted wood.
During and after the treatment, the treated space must be thoroughly ventilated. The treated wood comes with a minimum 5-year guarantee according to industry guidelines.
Tijdens en na de behandeling dient de behandelde ruimte grondig te worden geventileerd. Op het behandelde hout zit een garantie van minimaal 5 jaar volgens de brancherichtlijnen.
Heat treatment
With hot air treatment, the affected wood is heated to the core at 48 to 55 degrees Celsius, which kills insects such as woodworm and longhorn beetles at all life stages. The treatment is performed with specialized hot air equipment placed outside the building or object to be treated. Heated air is then blown into the space via hoses or pipes.
In hard-to-heat areas, sensors are placed in the wood to measure its core temperature. Every 10 minutes, the temperature is recorded and stored on a computer. Once all sensors indicate the correct core temperature, heating continues for at least one hour. Wood-boring insects are guaranteed to be eliminated in all life stages.

Woodworm beetles explained...
The common furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum) belongs to the dry wood borers that attack dried wood. In summer, the beetles emerge from the wood through exit holes. Males and females mate, after which the females lay 20-40 eggs on the wood. The larvae emerge from the eggs and bore into the wood for about 3 years. Pupation occurs just beneath the wood surface, after which adult insects emerge, starting the cycle again. It is essential to start woodworm control on time.
The Deathwatch beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum) emerges from the wood in April and May. Development from egg to beetle takes at least three years. This insect mainly attacks damp wood, especially wood affected by rot, and can penetrate deep into the material. Timely woodworm removal prevents further damage. The beetle exits the wood via gnawed exit holes, often leaving many exit holes close together, which can resemble a shotgun pattern on the wood.

EWS FUMIGATION
EWS Fumigation specialises in the fumigation of various goods and objects including containers, silos, warehouses, ships and industrial structures. Fumigation is an extremely efficient method that uses toxic gas to kill all stages of the pest lifecycle in food, feed and wood.
