Are you exporting breakbulk to Australia or New Zealand during BMSB risk season? The post-treatment window of 120 hours is, among other things, something to take into consideration. At the BMSB season summer event we organised in Antwerp last summer, our CTO Michiel Verwerft held a presentation and elaborated on this 120-hour rule and its implications, as well as the differences in application between Australia and New Zealand. Check out this video for a snippet of the presentation.
In short: the BMSB season runs from September 1st to April 30th, but the 120-hour rule only applies until December 1st for shipments to Australia, while it remains in place for all New Zealand shipments throughout the season. For breakbulk goods, this means they must be loaded on the vessel within 120 hours after treatment—starting from ventilation for fumigation, or treatment completion for heat treatment. Remember, open top containers and flat racks are treated as breakbulk!
